I have been blog silent for almost a month...more actually. I hate being "blog silent". Life sometimes stops me from expressing. The last few weeks have been tough. I lost my grandmother and I moved to a new home (this is a good thing!).

My grandmother's death stopped me in my tracks. It has been such a loss. She was an incredible person. There aren't any words that I can say to express how much she meant to me.

Such a beautiful woman! How about that dress...I mean wow. Also, my handsome grandfather. Love his sideburns!

I think about her every single day. I miss her. I miss writing letters to her each week and calling her on Sundays. My life is different since she is gone. I feel a tremendous responsibility to carry on her legacy and represent her grace and goodness to the world. I am hoping to be a better person in 2012 for her.

A Blue Heron

Today my grandfather crossed my mind. I came across this note card by Deep Blue Sea Designs and thought it was so beautiful.

A very interesting occurrence has been happening since I moved back to North Carolina. I am living by a river and about once a month when I am driving (anywhere within 5 miles of my house) I have looked up to see a blue heron flying. Every single time this reminds me of my grandfather. He loved herons. In fact, at our lake house we often would look at these birds together and I once even drew him a picture of a heron that remains framed in the lake house today. My grandfather passed away nearly 12 years ago but I believe that his spirit is near when I see those herons fly over.

So I am not a Disney girl. I don't particularly follow the teen stars (other than Taylor Swift) and I rarely know anything about their lives etc. But somehow over the last few months Demi Lovato has caught my attention. Maybe it is because of her struggle or maybe she just has a spark but I have been keeping my eye on her. She recently released a song that absolutely captured my attention. It is called "Skyscraper" and I just can't stop listening to it.

You can feel her battle, see her anguish and even come to believe that she (and others that have struggled) will come out ok.

Wedding Fun: Out of Town Bags

My friend Kindsay wanted to do an out of town bag and I had a vision! My favorite band is The Avett Brothers and there is an amazing song called "Murder In The City" that has the perfect wedding line. I designed a little something and showed it to her and SHE LOVED IT!

We promptly had canvas bags created with the lyrics and utilized my favorite North Carolina sign with a heart over our beloved Boone (where the wedding was!).

The finished product...so wonderful!

New Show - New Girl

I keep seeing the previews for the new Fox show "New Girl" and I am getting so excited. This is the perfect show for me. She is quirky and funny. And I think she is "real". I love Zooey Deschanel. Burlap fetish continues...

I am traveling in Georgia and Alabama this week for work (thinking about all of the people effected by the storm and praying for their recovery). I have been staying in hotels. In Birmingham I have the pleasure of staying at the Aloft hotel (which I love!).

DIY Burlap "Love" Banner

I have been super inspired by burlap lately and wanted to make a banner for an upcoming engagement shoot that my husband is doing. It turned out to be a super easy project and I wanted to share with you the details:

What you need for my (easy) Burlap Banner version:

burlap (you can buy this at any craft/fabric store, some hardware/farm stores even have thicker versions.
scissors (any kind! sharp.)
sharpie markers (you determine the color...I used black and red)
needle and thread (khaki colored thread)
thick hemp (or ribbon) - I got mine at Wal-Mart
letter stencils - these are what I used Stencil Ease (from Hobby Lobby)

Step 1:

Lay out your hemp and determine what size flags you want to create. I used a word document and literally threw a triangle on it. Printed that out (home printer) on card stock. Cut the stencil and there you have it!

Step 2:

Lightly trace the flags onto the hemp. I used a thin sharpie for this. Use the top seam as a guide.

Step 3:

Cut out your hemp flags using your scissor. Don't worry if they aren't perfect lines. The hemp provides a rough edge (which is really nice!)

Step 4:

Use your stencil to stencil the letters on. I wanted to keep this super simple and just used a sharpie to trace the letters and fill them in. Some things you can put on your banner "Love", "In Love", "Just Married", "Marry Me", "Forever" and my favorite "Bliss"

Step 5:

Create a heart stencil. I just used word. Print the heart out and trace it onto your burlap. I used a red sharpie for this and colored it in. Super easy!!

Step 6:

Get your needle and thread (this would obviously be a lot easier with a sewing machine!). Line up your letters, slightly overlapping the edges of the flag. And sew the hemp string onto the back of the flags. My stiches went around the hemp and through it.

How easy is that!!

Following up on my post from yesterday with some fun iPad cases. Here are some more that I found and I just adore. I am not even more torn about what to buy!!

This is such a great choice and I feel like would keep the iPad safe from being stolen. This is from Pad and Quill and they have great cases for ipads, iphones, kindles etc.

I am IN LOVE with this. I want it. The price is high but gosh...I feel a need for it. It is from Temple Bags and they have some great things.

Continuing the felt craze...I really like this case from Moodswing Wear. I think the colors are great and the little hearts. It is a great price!

I am so excited about my new iPad 2 and debating getting a fun case (even though I got the smart cover!). I found some great ones on Etsy (of course!) and I am going to share some of my favorites with you!

I am loving this faux lace leather one from Beautiful Skin. The price is too high at $90 but it looks so great!

I have written about the felt cases before but thinking this could be a really cool option.

I am falling in love with these cases by North Carolina designer Carter Gray. The tag line for the company is "it's like Uggs but for your device" - Cute! Priced around $69.

I got my wisdom teeth out last week (what am I a teenager?!?!) and it has kept me from writing...I have felt like a zombie!! But...guess what came in the mail yesterday?!

My new ipad2!!!! I am so thrilled. I am attached to my computer, all the time. I literally am on it like 15 hours a day and I realized that a lot of the time when I want to use it for fun I end up working. So I am thrilled to have the new ipad to take me away from the computer.

I got the smart cover with it but am really interested in getting a fun case. So I went to my favorite spot...Etsy...and found a few that I love. I will share them with you later today !!

I really want these boots. I love the style. The price is soooo high though and I just can't bring myself to spend that money. I found them at Free People but they are actually made by the Vintage Shoe Company.

I'm so excited...I'm so excited...I'm so excited!! When I came across these items by Egg-a-go-go I almost fell out of my chair. I am completely taken with these items. The pillow and bags with the bird.....absolutely.amazing! They are expensive but almost worth the splurge!!

I never buy expensive jeans.......EVER. I want to buy them but I can never bring myself to do it. That is until last week...when I walked into Lucky Brand. I was drawn to the Charlie Flare jeans....they are stretch and the perfect length and the perfect amount of flare.

I promptly bought 2 pairs and really don't want to take them off!!

I am pretty sure that traveling can suck the life out of you. I have spent the last 2 weeks traveling for work. While it has been super fun to see my work friends and some family...I am really tired and the entire time I was traveling I was thinking I needed new luggage. So I wanted to share with you some of my favorites and soon I will make a decision and buy one!!

My cousin Carson introduced me to Filson and I have fallen in love. I love the hunting, prep style.

JCrew angers me with their prices but their luggage collection...wow, wow, wow. This is so impractical but so beautiful.

This luggage from Streamline makes me drool! I love everything about it (except the price, although it isn't horrible).

Reem Acra Blows Me Away

If I could have my wedding again. I would wear this wedding dress without a doubt. It has blown me away. It is the most beautiful dress I have ever seen and I am in love with it.

What is so interesting it is that while I know I can't wear it (already married!) but I have never imagined my sister in a wedding dress until I saw this dress. Wow...it is so stunning.

Mom's DIY Bathroom Redo

My husband and I decided to give my mom's bathroom a renovation. It is something she had casually mentioned before and we thought we could handle easily. My husband did all of the work...the installation and the painting. I just lent a hand in the design.

I am absolutely thrilled with the way it came out and think that it might inspire her to redo her entire house!

A few more shots. I am in love with the green mirrors, such a change from the plastic gold! And the mason jar is a nice touch and lastly...the faucet!

Friendship in Raleigh

When we decided to move back to North Carolina we knew that a big part of our lives would be filled by family and friends. I am just not sure how much we realized what a great blessing it would feel like. Being able to drive 20 miles to see my best friends little girl or spend a weekend with dear friends or even get together with new friends. There is really something to be said for living where your heart is.

This past weekend was no exception to our new life. We spent an awesome weekend in Raleigh. Neither my husband or I have spent much time there but we really loved the NC capital. We had some of the best tour guides (thank you Dodson's and Kapplers!).

One of my favorite finds there was the work of Holly Aiken. She makes some pretty rad bags. The prices are a bit steep but the work is solid and the material is "undestructale". Some of my favorites:

The other fun thing we did was head to the Raleigh Flea Market. I found some amazing things and I will share those with you in the future!

27 Things For My Sister On Her 27th Birthday

Today my sister turns 27. There is no one in the world that means more to me. A few things about her...

She is the first person I turn to for advice (and she is usually right on)
She is fun...you know those people who just are generally happy and fun...Meg is that way.
She knows music...she is always introducing us to new stuff and taught us about the Avett Brothers and so many other musical talents.
She has saved me from every thunderstorm (both literally and figuratively)
She is smart. Really smart. Sometimes I am jealous.
She is beautiful. Sometimes I look at her and think...I wish I looked like her.
She is funny. She says funny things, does funny things and makes me laugh...a lot.
She gets me. The good, the bad and the ugly.
She is loyal and dedicated, to a fault.
She pressures me to have kids because she desperately wants to be an aunt and while I am not ready yet...there is no one in the world I would rather be my kids aunt...she will be amazing.

So on her 27th birthday I say...happy birthday sister. You are my best friend (sounds so cheesy but it is the truth) and I am so proud of you. And don't you forget how amazing you are. Thank you for never letting me down and always being my biggest fan....i will always be yours.
